M-Cell quarterly trading update

As at 30 Jun 02, M-Cell recorded a total of 5.08m mobile subscribers on its networks in South Africa and other African countries. This is a 6.4% growth since 31 Mar 02. MTN South Africa increased its pre-paid capable subscriber base to 3.10m subscribers while adding 12 000 subscribers to its post paid base, which now stands at 864 000 as at 30 Jun 02. MTN International witnessed strong subscriber growth of 24.1% to 1.11m total subscribers for the quarter to 30 Jun 02. A major contributor to this was MTN Nigeria, which recorded 454 000 active subscribers, while strong performances from MTN Cameroon, MTN Uganda, and MTN RwandaCell was recorded. MTN Swaziland experienced a more maturing market.
